Everything that can go wrong, and what to do
Rivayet opens with a code — from your hotel, your host or your agency. Most questions are about that code, the sound, or listening without signal. Start here; if your answer isn't below, write to us and a person replies.
Getting started
Where do I get a code?
Your code comes from whoever arranged your stay or your tour — a hotel, a host, or a travel agency working with us. It is usually printed on your welcome card or sent with your booking confirmation. We do not sell codes to travellers directly.
How do I enter my code?
Open the app, tap to enter your code, and type it exactly as printed. Scanning the QR on your card does the same thing without typing. Once accepted, the whole collection unlocks — you do not enter it again on that device.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Rivayet also runs in your phone's browser at rivayet.app and can be saved to your home screen. The app is there if you prefer it, but the same code works in both.
Listening
How do I start a stop?
Open a guide and tap any stop in its list — you do not have to follow the numbered order. On the map screen you can also tap to find the stop nearest to you, which saves scrolling when you are already standing somewhere. Each stop runs ninety to a hundred and eighty seconds, then goes quiet without pushing you onward.
What if I have no headphones?
Every stop carries its full text alongside the audio. You can read it instead of listening, which is also what most people do inside mosques and other places where playing sound aloud is not welcome.
Can I change the language?
Yes — English, Turkish and Persian, switchable at any time from the language control. Each language is a separate retelling rather than a translation, so a stop can differ in length between them. Your code covers all three.
Can I listen without signal?
Yes. Download a guide over Wi-Fi before you set out and it plays with no connection at all. Finding the nearest stop works offline too, since that comparison happens on your phone. Downloads stay on the device until you remove them.
Your code and devices
How many devices can use one code?
Up to ten. That is meant for a family or a small group travelling together — everyone enters the same code on their own phone. Once ten devices have used it, an eleventh is refused.
How long does my access last?
Your listening window runs from check-in at 00:00 to check-out at 23:59 on the dates set by whoever issued your code. Within that window the whole collection is open, as many times as you like.
I lost my code.
Ask the hotel, host or agency that gave it to you — they can look it up and reissue it. If you cannot reach them, write to us with your booking name and dates and we will trace it.
My code is not accepted.
Check for confusion between 0 and O, or 1 and I, and make sure there is no trailing space. If it still fails, the code may be outside its listening window or already on ten devices. Send us the code and we will tell you exactly which it is.
When something is wrong
There is no sound.
Check the silent switch on the side of the phone, the volume while audio is actually playing, and whether the phone is still connected to a car or speaker over Bluetooth. If you denied audio permission on first use, close the app fully and reopen it.
The map cannot find me.
Location permission has to be set to "While Using the App", and precise location has to be on — with it off, the phone reports a neighbourhood, not a corner. Dense old streets and courtyards also confuse GPS. Nothing is lost either way: every stop can be started by hand from the guide's list.
A download is stuck or incomplete.
Downloads need Wi-Fi to be steady and around a hundred megabytes free per guide. Delete the half-finished download and start it again; if it stalls at the same point twice, write to us with the guide's name.
It drains the battery.
Continuous location and audio are demanding by nature. Downloading guides in advance helps most, since the phone stops reaching for the network. Low Power Mode is fine — it does not interfere with playback.
Privacy
What do you collect?
Your location is used on the device to decide which stop to play and is not sent to us or stored. We keep the code you entered, which guides were opened and when — enough to support you and to report to the partner who issued the code. No advertising, no third-party trackers.
Can you delete my data?
Yes. Write to us from the address on your booking, or send the code you used, and we remove the listening records tied to it. Anything held on your own phone — downloads, language choice — goes when you delete the app.
Still stuck?
Tell us your code, the guide you were on and what the phone did. That is usually enough for us to answer in one reply rather than three.
